DCF (Double Cladding Fibre)
The Manlight team has more than 15 years of experience in the double-clad fibre technology and owns impressive intellectual property in the area (France Telecom R&D Labs & Highwave Optical Technologies). Double Cladding Fibre Lasers (DCFL) are high power devices, involving a piece of non circular multimode structure, supporting a multi-mode pumping scheme. In the core of the latter multimode structure, a single mode propagating guide doped with rare earth ions (Yb3+ for an emission around 1,1µm) enables pump absorption and laser signal emission and transmission. Manlight’s lasers involve specific and dedicated doped double-clad fibres. The patents and development efforts associated to these fibres guarantee the use of the well adapted fibre according to each of Manlight’s fibre laser type; Fibre represents one of the "Keys" for the beam quality and the pump to signal efficiency of our lasers.
PI (Pump Injector)
The Manlight injection system that couples the optical power, emitting from multi-mode laser stacks, in the multimode section of the double-clad fibre is a proprietary and patented technology. This pump injector is the outcome of many years of development and improvement to reach the Telecom standards (conditions of operation and long term stability). It offers a pump injection ratio higher than 90 % without inducing any extra-losses on the laser signal, minimizing overheating, thus increasing the durability of our lasers. At present Manlight’s fibre lasers up to 50 Watts are injected in a single fibre laser point. Smart arrangements of specific fibre pieces, high power pig-tailed laser diodes associated with our injectors, open the way to kilowatt laser perspectives. All our injection devices are in-house produced to guarantee the complete control of the process and thus, the quality and reliability.
ILC (Integrated Laser Cavity)
A laser takes form through the splicing of different pieces of fibres (active and passive, double-clad and not, single-mode and multi-mode). Among the latter pieces of fibre, some support in-fibre Bragg gratings, acting as laser cavity mirrors. A Bragg grating is a UV laser photo-induced piece of fibre complex periodic index modulation, having a more or less complex envelope, on a few mm in our case. A fibre Bragg grating is an in-fibre integrated mirror or filter. This All in-fibre construction is one of the major reasons for the robustness and stability of Manlight’s fibre lasers.
EPL (Echangeable Pump Laser)

Manlight offers a unique technology on the market for its industrial lasers (0.5mJ and 1mJ pulsed, and 50W and 100W CW), the EPL technology. The cover of the laser can be opened, giving access to the 60W pump diode. The diode can be swapped ON SITE by the customer, no need to send back the laser to the manufacturer. No special tools are needed, no splice. A SMA connector is implemented on the diode. 2 hours maximum are needed for make the full swap from a production line. Life time of the product is no more an issue !!!
Electronics & Software
Manlight offers a double competency in electronics related to both activities: Fibre Amplifiers and Fibre Lasers.
Manlight’s team has gained well founded experience in high speed electronics enabling Metro reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs), that are a key network element for scaling the core. Indeed, ROADMs create new design challenges for the control of the optical amplifier in terms of higher functionality and faster response times.
Manlight’s know-how, extended in high power electronics required for Fibre Laser Products, leads to relatively high current management and must be obtained with short transient. The overall efficiency of the boards is optimised according to power consumption.
Manlight’s control firmware and software is designed to meet the challenge of today’s agile networks. The design is based on rapid electronic components and software which has been developed for optimal performance. Features such as fast transient control, large dynamic monitoring range, ASE correction, hitless firmware upgrade and full-featured alarm system are part of the amplifier standard offering and they benefit the fibre lasers.
